There are two sides to every decision. The first is that, in the decision-making process, you must be prepared to be wrong. The second is that you must be prepared to make the right decisions under pressure.
In a very common occurrence, we have to say "I do not know." That is a statement that is not only personal, but at the same time it is true. If you are not even ready to try something then don't even try. Think about this: If you are not going to try and fail and risk your integrity on something then you will never grow as a person.
What is it about making decisions that makes it so important? It is about being ready to face the results of the decision. In other words, when you make a decision, make it for the results.
Think about the times you have been an effective manager. When you decide to get something done, do you get it done? If you did, congratulations! Now the question is: How much time does the rest of the world spend trying to figure out how to get it done?
We hear all the time people complain about how everything they get done costs them time. Many times, they do not have the time or patience to wait for the results. Sometimes they know what they want and they need to go, but the result is such that they are way behind.
So when do we know that these critical issues are better tackled immediately rather than waiting for the results of a decision? When we know how to handle the results of the decision. That is when we say: "I do not know what the outcome will be, but I am ready to make the necessary changes to get it done."
Why Decisions Are Personal is a very important concept. It is just one more way to stay on track as a person and learn how to make the right decisions under pressure.
