When we avoid facing down our difficulties, we sometimes find ourselves in a situation where we encounter obstacles that we cannot simply evade. We might be young and stupid and feel like we can avoid difficult questions that may call us to the realization that we are not doing enough. However, by facing ourselves in this way we often miss opportunities to learn, grow, and make progress.
What about the times when we have challenges that we cannot simply run away from, but rather must confront and overcome? Why can't we experience progress or experience a struggle, when we find ourselves facing these situations? Are these not moments where we must face our struggles?
Most people who are faced with challenges have a hard time accepting their position and are afraid to get knocked down. It may be one of the first steps in becoming someone who accepts their lot in life and knows exactly what they want to do. We learn best by putting ourselves in dangerous situations. If we are capable of putting ourselves in these situations, we can then expect to learn some of the hardest lessons possible.
This is not to say that we should avoid the uncomfortable. It is just to say that there is a difference between facing the struggle of a situation and avoiding it. A struggle in itself does not mean that the person in it is not learning, growing, or experiencing success. All it means is that the person facing that struggle must do something about it.
When we find ourselves facing a challenge, we should not hesitate. When faced with a challenge we should not run away. When we need to face something on our own, we need to do something. We need to learn, grow, and experience success or we will not succeed.
So, instead of beating ourselves up, why not look at the situation and see what you can do about it? If the situation requires help, then help will come. Do not be afraid to put yourself in a situation that may call for your effort, courage, and determination. Instead of avoiding, let's face the obstacle, and overcome it.
